Every Wave Pool in the World: The Complete 2026 Guide

The artificial wave pool industry has transformed from a niche curiosity into a global phenomenon. As of early 2026, there are 19 operational wave pools worldwide with 9 more under construction — and the pace is accelerating. This comprehensive guide covers every single one.

The Current Landscape

Modern wave pool technology has come a long way since the early days of wave machines at water parks. Today’s facilities produce waves that rival — and in some cases surpass — natural ocean conditions. Three main technology providers dominate the market: Wavegarden (with their Cove system), American Wave Machines (PerfectSwell), and Endless Surf (formerly WhiteWater).

Wavegarden Cove is currently the market leader with 8+ operational installations worldwide, from The Wave in Bristol to Wave Park in South Korea. Their technology produces a wide variety of wave types suitable for beginners through advanced surfers, with up to 1,000 waves per hour across multiple zones.

Kelly Slater Wave Company takes a different approach — fewer, more perfect waves. Their technology at the Surf Ranch in California and Surf Abu Dhabi produces some of the most powerful and realistic barrel waves ever created artificially, but at a significantly higher price point.

Endless Surf is the fastest-growing technology provider, with their first installation (o2 SURFTOWN MUC in Munich) opening in 2024 and six more facilities under construction globally.

Top-Rated Pools in 2026

According to our W.A.V.E.S. rating system, the highest-scoring wave pools in the world right now are Waco Surf (BSR) and Wave Park in South Korea, both scoring 83 out of 100. Waco Surf earns top marks for its combination of barrel-capable waves, broad accessibility from beginner to pro, and outstanding value at just $60-90 per hour. Wave Park matches it with excellent wave quality, the best value score in our rankings, and strong accessibility across all skill levels.

Close behind are SRF Park TLV in Tel Aviv (81/100), which offers the best value proposition in the wave pool world at approximately $37 per session, and the two European powerhouses — o2 SURFTOWN MUC and URBNSURF Melbourne — both at 80/100.

What to Expect Price-Wise

Wave pool pricing varies enormously. At the affordable end, SRF Park TLV offers sessions from around $37 and RiF010 in Rotterdam starts at €35 per hour. Mid-range facilities like The Wave, Alaïa Bay, and URBNSURF typically charge $50-100 per session. Premium experiences like Surf Abu Dhabi range from $450-950 per session. And at the ultra-exclusive top end, the Kelly Slater Surf Ranch commands $5,000-7,000 per day.

Coming Soon: 2026 Openings

Nine major wave pool projects are currently under construction and expected to open in 2026. Europe will gain Gemswell Surf Madrid (Spain’s first major wave pool) and Surfers Cove in Óbidos, Portugal. North America is adding The Point Surf Park and Koa Bay in Florida, plus DSRT Surf in California. South America gets Brasil Surfe Clube in São Paulo and El Nido in Uruguay. And the Middle East will see the massive Aquarabia facility in Saudi Arabia’s Qiddiya entertainment city.

We track all of these on our interactive map and will add W.A.V.E.S. ratings as soon as each facility opens and can be properly evaluated.

How to Choose the Right Wave Pool

Choosing the right wave pool depends on your skill level, budget, and what kind of experience you’re looking for. Beginners should look for facilities with high Variety scores (like Wave Park, RiF010, or Surfland Brasil) that offer gentle, forgiving waves alongside more challenging options. Advanced surfers chasing barrels should prioritize facilities with high Wave Quality scores — Surf Abu Dhabi, Waco Surf, and the Kelly Slater Surf Ranch lead in this category. Budget-conscious surfers should sort our rankings by Value to find the best bang for their buck.
